“I’M PREGNANT, WHAT DO I NEED TO ABOUT MY CURRENT PIERCINGS AND SHOULD I CONSIDER GETTING A NEW ONE?”
This text is especially for those women with piercings or who wish to get one and are currently pregnant! Over the course of a pregnancy, the skin becomes more sensitive and its elasticity increases; this can affect the size of jewel/piercing suitable as well as the healing process. If you already have a piercing, particularly a belly-button one, it’s very important that you lend consideration to whether or not its worth leaving the piercing in place during your pregnancy. In the case of a nipple piercing, the piercing can be left in place during the pregnancy itself, though must be removed thereafter should you wish to breast-feed your newborn – this because the piercing represents a potential choking hazard to the child. As regards to the other piercing types and locations, if you have an er, nose, mouth or tongue piercing, these can be kept in if the mother wishes, though in the case of recently performed piercings, strict adherence to good hygiene practices becomes absolutely fundamental in order to avoid infection.
