Did you know that your bare hands and mobile phone could potentially contaminate your piercing? That’s right, your mobile phone is crawling with fungus and bacteria. We tend not to let this device leave our side for so much a second as we go about our daily lives and this means that it has more bacteria on its surface than an entire bathroom. Whilst this fact might be shocking to you, it might also have you wondering what exactly it has to do with our piercing. Well, let me tell you that it has EVERYTHING to do with your piercing, as it’s one of the main reasons to never touch your piercing with your bare hands.
Research performed at the Devy Metrocampo institution in Brazil reveals that a standard mobile phone can carry up to 23,000 fungus and bacteria, scary right? These bacteria and fungus can cause skin conditions, mucosas, conjunctivitis, food poising, and urinary and respiratory infections. Imagine the impact then that they could do if put into direct contact with the site of a recently performed piercing! For this reason, it is of paramount importance to regularly clean your phone with disinfectant wipes/spray and wash your hands with disinfectant soap. Never lay unclean bare hands on a piercing!
